Medidata
Medidata Solutions was the company I worked at the longest time in my 25+ year career. Although I don't think that all of their clients are good players, I always liked and respected Glen de Vries, and believed in the power of change from within, and he could be a force for good inside an industry that sometimes profits off treating illness instead of curing it.
I started out as a C# software engineer as part of their helpdesk and later the customer success team. I was essentially the tier 3 support, helping troubleshoot client issues, advising on workarounds, creating auditable data change scripts, implementing hot fixes, and reporting software defects. Occasionally, I would make commits and pull requests to the core source base.
After four years, I transitioned to their knowledge management team due to the success of some innovation projects I created in the area of wikis and Enterprise Search. This ultimately led to me becoming a subject matter expert in both Google Workspace and Jive Software, although I also worked considerably with Atlassian Confluence and Jira.
Medidata made great strides in reducing the reliance on paper reporting in the drug development activities of many organizations, as they worked with the FDA towards the approval of new products.
I really enjoyed my six years working in their Manhattan office. It was a privilege to work in such a dynamic environment, and the video below highlights me enjoying city cycling in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
This video was one of my last times leaving the office there.
