Eric is a notable public speaker, master salesman, and author. He is also a quick study to anything he sets his mind to. I have seen him speak live just a few times, but for me the most notable was when he was asked to present on the future of television and special effects for FujiTV in Tokyo. He'd only been CEO of Kerner Optical (one of the companies that made special effects for Star Wars) for just a few years at that time, and many in the audience had worked in the industry for decades, and yet he was so well positioned, but also somehow already so knowledgeable about the industry, that he was more than adequate in answering all of the questions from the curious audience. I lived in Japan 12 years, and I never saw a room of Japanese professionals that lively and active during the Q&A section of a talk.

Recently, googling him, I noticed some of the search results were filtered here in Canada with:

Some results may have been delisted consistent with local laws

Although Eric and I have pursued very different paths of success, I am delighted on how many issues and attitudes we have converged at the stage of our lives - be it diet, family, importance of freedom of speech, business, and world politics. So I'm very curious about what local laws he was not compliant with. My guess is they were the kind that some conspiracy theorists might call totalitarianism, but I haven't lost all faith in the Canadian government just yet. But I would definitely characterize many of the Canadian laws and government action pertaining to media, and also freedom of demonstration as having severe overreach. I guess we'll find out (or worse we won't).

Eric Trivia

Eric and I both briefly attended St. John's School of Alberta.

In the 1990s, Eric and I would engage in debates using CompuServe email about whether Apple computers or IBM-compatible PCs were better.
