It's sort of reminds me of Warren Buffett's idea to “end the deficit in five minutes” by passing a law that disqualifies current lawmakers from re-election if the federal deficit exceeds 3% of GDP. I mean, it might not be as bold as this, although apparently buffet meant this more like a joke, even small measures to increase the checks and balances I think can go a long way.

It reminds me of Warren Buffett’s half-joking idea to “end the deficit in five minutes” by disqualifying lawmakers from re-election if the federal deficit exceeds 3% of GDP. Even if taken as satire, ideas like these highlight creative ways to add checks and balances to fiscal policy.

Interesting reel from Mario Zelaya about Pierre Poilievre’s pledge to introduce a **Taxpayer Protection Act** that would require any new tax or tax increase to be approved by a national referendum—not just by politicians. His framing: taxpayers should have a direct say, and any new spending should be offset by cuts elsewhere.

This is actually genius. I wish this was done 25 years ago. #taxhike #pierrepoilievre #conservatives #canada
