Lawyer by training, but scientist and philosopher by passion, he has instilled the passion in me for greater enlightenment on how our species came to be. Some of the books that I read thanks to Baz:

* Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
* Love, Medicine & Miracles by Bernie S Siegel
* And of course his own [[Megafauna]].

He passed away on 2024-02-27 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Baz Edmeades, who departed this world peacefully at his home on February 27, 2024.

Baz's journey began in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was born and raised. He pursued legal studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and McGill University, before shifting his focus to academia as a respected professor at Dalhousie University.

In the late 1980s, Baz embarked on a new chapter in Vancouver, entering private practice and specializing in legal services for high technology firms and startups. Upon retiring, he channeled his passion into writing, culminating in the publication of his long-awaited and groundbreaking book in 2021, "[[Megafauna: First Victims of the Human-Caused Extinction]]." Through this work, he shared his deep love for human history, nature conservation, and wildlife preservation.

Baz was immensely dedicated to aiding others in their journey towards sobriety, with his impactful talks and writings reaching audiences worldwide. Renowned for his exceptional storytelling, inspirational speeches, and unwavering support of his community, Baz's absence will be profoundly felt.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha, his sons, Eric and Nik, six cherished grandchildren, step-daughter Samara, and his first wife, the mother of his boys, and dearest friend, Delphine.

A private family ceremony will be held to scatter Baz's ashes.

Death is hard on everyone, and so it's no wonder I didn't pick up on this sooner, but Baz was actually born in Bloemfontein, not Johannesburg as mention in his obituary.
